AGENT ORANGE

U.S. forces sprayed an estimated 20 million gallons of the herbicide Agent Orange in South East Asia to clear jungle foliage providing enemies with cover and to destroy crops that they used as a food source. Americans were told that this massive endeavor would save American lives, but research in subsequent decades has revealed that exposure to Agent Orange causes many serious health conditions. Veterans who served at certain South East Asian locations during a period of herbicide use and develop a condition known to be caused by Agent Orange may be entitled to disability compensation without needing to submit actual evidence of exposure. The VA refers to the qualifying conditions as "presumptive conditions" of Agent Orange exposure.
